It’s another jam packed fall weekend in and around Champaign-Urbana, and we have plenty of ideas to keep your kiddos happy! Area pumpkin patches are open. There are some family-friendly Halloween events , as well as haunted houses for the teens and adults.

What: UHS Homecoming Parade
Where: Race Street at Iowa, Urbana
When: Friday, Oct. 9, from 3-4 p.m.
How Much: FREE
Appropriate For: All Ages
Why You Should Go: Cheer on the Urbana High School Tigers at this fun homecoming parade.
What: Music Together Pajama Party Concert
Where: Hays Recreation Center at Eisner Park, Champaign
When: Friday, Oct. 9, 6:15 – 7:30 p.m.
How Much: Tickets are $10 a family. Pre-registration is strongly recommended, space is limited. Tickets may be bought at the door if space is available. All proceeds will go directly to the Humane Society.

Why You Should Go: Grab your jammies and SING, DANCE, and JAM with the Champaign School of Music and Music Together performer “Uncle Gerry” Dignan. This sounds like a fun family-friendly musical event for a good cause.
What: Illini Volleyball vs. Penn State
Where: Huff Hall, Champaign
When: Friday, Oct. 9, 7 p.m.
How much: Tickets for all ages are $6.
Appropriate for: All ages
Why you should go: Cheer on the Illini volleyball team at IlliNOISE night. Attempt to break the volleyball crowd decibel record at this noisy night. Kids love screeching and getting their yell on (and out?) — this is the indoor event for you! It’s also Stripe the Huff, and fan sections will be designated to wear either orange or blue. There will also be postmatch autographs by players.

Where: Krannert Art Museum and Kinkead Pavilion, Champaign
When: Saturday Oct. 10, 10 a.m.-noon

Appropriate for: Ages 3-8
Why you should go: It’s a morning of hands-on artsy fun for the entire family, featuring messy art activities, scavenger hunts, and art games that help parents and children engage with the KAM’s newest art exhibitions. A wonderful opportunity to get up close to art, learn, and have fun!
What: 11th Annual DSN Buddy Walk
Where: Champaign County Fairgrounds, Urbana
When: Saturday, Oct. 10, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
How much: FREE (food available for purchase)

Why you should go: October is National Down Syndrome Awareness Month — and an opportunity to show how we are more alike than we are different. The one-mile Buddy Walk is just one way to participate in the day’s events. There will be plenty of activities for all ages and abilities with games, inflatables, plenty of food and lots more. It will be a great day of family fun! Activities start at 9 a.m. The main program will begin around 11 a.m. with the step-off for the walk at noon. The raffle drawings will be at 1 p.m. Inflatables will re-open from 12:30 to 2 p.m. For an event schedule, click here.

Where: Champaign Public Library
When: Saturday, Oct. 10, 3-3:45 p.m.

Appropriate For: All ages
Why You Should Go: Join fellow Star Wars fans for trivia, crafts, and games. Bonus fun: there will be special guests from the 501st Legion’s Midwest Garrison and the Rebel Legion. Come dressed as your favorite character. Fun you will have at this event.
